Heredity and adaptations, made playable.

Students pick two real “parent” animals and AI creates their hybrid offspring, with abilities that come from each parent's real biology. Then teams battle, and the class works out which inherited traits won.

Runs in any browser, so it works on Chromebooks. No download or student accounts needed.

Which parent gave it keen eyesight? Which gave it a powerful bite? Every ability card names its source.

Heredity: Inheritance and Variation of Traits

  • Observe how traits pass from parent animals to hybrid offspring
  • Explore variation: the same two parents never produce the same hybrid twice
  • Discuss which inherited abilities give a survival advantage, and why
  • Connect each ability to the real-world adaptation it's based on (bite force, venom, echolocation, camouflage…)
A 45-minute lesson

Create, predict, battle, explain

Choose parents (5 min)

In teams, students pick two animals and write down which traits they hope their offspring inherits.

Create the hybrid (10 min)

AI generates the creature. Teams sort each ability by the parent it came from, using the “real-world basis” on each card.

Predict and battle (15 min)

Before each battle, teams predict the winner based on inherited stats and abilities, then play it out.

Explain (15 min)

Teams write a short claim-evidence-reasoning: which inherited trait made the difference, and how it helps the real animal survive?

Teacher questions

Do students need accounts or a download?

No. The game runs in any modern browser at hybridbattle.com/app and can be played without an account. It's also free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Is it free?

Yes. Every player gets free Battle Bux (the currency used for AI generation) and can earn more every day. Free play includes some ads, and purchases are optional. See the FAQ for details.

Is the science accurate?

Hybrids are imaginary, but every ability is grounded in a documented trait of one of the parent animals, and the card explains that real-world basis. It's a good prompt for students to fact-check and extend.

How do I get help setting it up?
